Mahogany Wall Clock
This wall clock is made from solid mahogany except for the compound curved base that is poplar with mahogany veneer. The motivation was to make a project that was able to be shipped: I made 75% this while on special assignment for my job in Michgan. I was fortunate enough to go to my co-workers basement shop every night for 3 weeks (thanks Eric). At the end of the assignment, I had to ship the unfinished carcass back to Iowa in a custom-made shipping crate. After getting home, I turned all the finials and finished the piece. Overall, its 53″ tall and 15″ wide.
The finish is a combination of dye stain, oil stain, glaze coats between layers of topcoat, and shellac. The movement is Hermle (German) and is wound with a key. The weights inside the cabinet are just decoration and non-functioning.
