Ahh, the space… Currently I work out of a one car garage I share with the laundry machines. Needless to say, all of my stationary machines are mobile, and I lose a great deal of time doing the machine rotation dance. When we move to/build our next house I plan to have a shop something along these lines… (And my wife is fully on board…)
Some items of note include a separate finishing space that can be converted to a spray booth (complete with it’s own garage door to the outdoors and double door into the shop), a separate “machine room” space for my dust collection and shop compressor (sorry, but the door is supposed to swing outward), a space for standing 4×8 sheet good storage (directly beside the machine room to help keep the noise down), a secluded, but still shop-connected, design/desk area along the far wall, plenty of room for the table saw/router table station with a 5 foot out-feed table which is aligned with the garage door opening to accommodate extremely long rips , a dedicated jointer wall with long in and out-feed tables (under the wood racks on the left wall – though I will be storing most of my wood in a separate building), a dedicated cross-cut saw/bench top mortiser station on the near wall, and a “mobile” planer that will be wheeled out and aligned to utilize the table saw station as it’s out-feed table. Also, a big feature for me will be the cozy bench area. With-in reach, there will be over/under cabinets with a counter (complete with a sharpening/honing station) and various tool/clamp racks for easy hand tool access and storage.
