Ash Roubo Workbench
This workbench was my first woodworking project. The bench is made from 8/4 ash. The vice chops are reclaimed brazil mahogany. The bench is based on my own hand drafted orthographics, but its the unmistakable roubo design. I admired the Benchcrafted split top roubos, so I thought I’d make a slimmed down (easier on the budget) knock down version. I’ve been using it for 6 months. The design has helped me explore the balance between power and hand tools, and its provided a good foundation for growth and learning.

Nice work. Looks like it does the job handsomely. That Benchcraft leg vise is sure sweet. If I hadn't already developed and installed my own years ago I'd go for one of their tail vises for sure.
Again, nice bench.
always,
Thanks B.L. Zeebub. I have enjoyed using the benchcrafted leg vise. Jameel has a quality product, and the instructions for installation were first class. It was expensive, but worth it for a lifetime tool.
This is a nice, clean build. Plenty of strength in the right places with well chosen vises. I also like the dog hole layout - nice job!
Thanks Groggy. I need to put a shelf on it, but I can't seem to justify time away from my furniture projects. That tail vise was easy for a novice to install, and the quick release is a real bonus. The bench is my finest tool, simple and effective. Its a lightweight compared to your beauty. That Jarrah is handsome, and it must be super dense to clock in at 1100 lbs. Your bench is amazing, it will see centuries of work.
Thanks for the interest, and take care!
Chuck
