Throne
This Throne is brought to you by the letter “h”. Its a little known fact that I am old alumni of The Sesame Street School of Design, and its courtesy of them that I designed this chair and bring it before you all. Letters interested me and it was one fine day that I sat down and saw the magical qualities inherent in its shape. I instantly recognised the side view of a chair, although it was some few years before I got around to making it. I drew a letter “h” ( with my mom’s help) and expanded it to full size on a paper grid. The back is laminated walnut, the arms/legs are spliced as I couldn’t be bothered to make another damn mold as the first one didn’t work out . Those first results were made into the seat rails rather conveniently. I wish I could say that the gold balls were intentional, but I cannot lie to fellow makers. The jointing at the leg to arm should have been a sweet mitre but at that time in my making career it seemed a bridge too far so I turned a ball or two and added a bit of sparkly gold leaf. It sold the first morning I put in for exhibition. So I’d like to say thanks to Kermit, Miss Piggy…..
