Pop’s 12′ x 16′ woodshop
This plan is for my shop that is going to be built into our new house. I have very limited space inside one of the garages and I will wall in a 12′ x 16′ dedicated shop. I know this is very small, but it will have to be a functional and efficient small shop area.
12′ x 16′ dedicated woodshop. Inside, everything but the table saw and the work bench are on wheels and can be moved. All portable items stored against the walls are on idividual tables/carts so that the final height of the work surface matches each of the other machines so they can be used for infeed and outfeed tables for each other (they all match the 35″ height of my table saw). All tables and carts are enclosed with either drawers or doors to store other tools and accessories – there are no open storage solutions. This cuts down on dusty hand tools and keeps a sanitary look to the shop.
The dust collector and compressor are stored outside in a small vented shed to help minimize noise and save space. Air and DC tubing are piped in through the walls and are available at each dust creating work station.
Board storage is suspended from the ceiling and can accomodate lengths only up to 10 feet. Sheet storage is housed in a vertical sheet storage enclosure on locking casters and pushed up against a corner under the board storage. Shorts and scraps are stored by wood type underneath the work bench hidden by cabinet doors.
Lastly, the outfeed table from the table saw serves a dual purpose as an assembly table. During project final assembly and finishing, the shop is shut down from dust making work.
