Old Model Planer
I have an old surface planer I picked up off craigslist for 50 bucks it has three blades and is all cast iron. I know it’s a great old machine but I need some parts the problem is I don’t know who made the machine. Could any of you old timers or wise men give me any help at all in identifying at all the below. If anyone has an answer it’s greatly appreciated. Thankyou!

It is a Makita 400MM planer Model 2040. I have two of them - have had them for over 30 years - an excellant planer. I did repairs on some of them - just the feed rollers for $183.00 apiece and have put in a lot of miscellaneous parts. Got the parts from a service center located in Milwaukee, WI. Makita USA is 1 800-4-Makita.
GBMac - Good luck

They have a lot of information for older model woodworking machinery.
I have a very similar one. It is Makita, or was branded and sold my them.
Mine also needs rollers which apparently cost more than the machine is worth - sad it worked beautifully .
If some or all of the major parts you need are going to be so expensive, have a look into privately owned machine shops in your area and have either new parts made or the old ones revived. They can be alot of help with sourcing bearings too. Don't forget, they enjoy a good challenge and a change of pace as much as the rest of us.
i am looking for Makita 2040 in the Burlington VT area.
I can be reached at : [email protected]
Thanks
From the picture. It appears to be a Makita 2040 15"/400mm wide planer. The only thing that throws me is your statement about the three blades. The Makita only had two. I bought one about 30 years ago and have used it more than any other tool. It is now obsolete and parts are hard to find.
