New-Fangled Workbench, Revisited
I needed someplace to work with my hand tools in reclaiming wood for window trim on my old house and saw John White’s video and was inspired! Thanks John!
I used old wood from the house we are rescuing – most of it was from floor joists removed from a barn we had to take down. Played a little with some mortise and tennon joints, along with screws and lag bolts in the base and I glued up the top out of more salvaged material. It is old growth pine of some variety – few knots and very straight grain. The house and barn were built in the 1870’s so probably the wood is what grew nearby in Ohio. I used ¾ inch pipe clamps and all seems to function as advertised. Very solid and great for planing and working with hand tools. I made it about 7 feet long and it should be about the right size for most of my work.
