Painful Box
This is a box that has been 4 years in the making. The wood is claro walnut, curly maple, lacewood, and rosewood. It was a pain to finish as the idea came from my ex wife who wanted me to make it for her. She then turned around and divorced me. The wood was bought on trips to different places around the country with her. She picked all the woods and colors…it really was her creation. It is a truly beautiful piece, but what to do with it is beyond me. Part of me wants to give it to her as it was made for her, part of me wants to sell it if I can, part of me just wants it gone as there is pain there when I look at it, and part of me wants to burn it at times.
Some of our best stuff is made in pain I guess!
The original design was similar to something I saw from the school of Red Woods in california, although I changed the woods and dimensions. Not sure who’s it was to start with.

Dear Superman; I believe if you give it to her, you will receive inner healing. Live up to your name, be super.
That's a nice looking piece. I'm having trouble figuring out
the scale, though. Is it in miniature?
It is not a miniature. I think that was just the focus of the camera angle. Dimensions on it are 13x14x8 when closed. Each drawer is 7 1/2 x 5 1/2 x 2 1/2. Thanks for the comments.
Lovely piece - give it to her, and move on. You have the photos and the experience thats all you need from this project. The next one will be better still.
Been there with the pain! My suggestion is to give it to her and help with the healing. Of course, though, if you get a chance to sell it.......
Lovely box! It looks like many hours of labor went into its completion. Love the woods chosen and their usage.
Thanks for all the comments, I truly appreciate them. After looking at the box in my room for 3 weeks I decided to give the box to my ex wife. I hurt every time I saw it sitting there. It was a reminder of a happy painful time in my life. I hope that just as I have moved on from the box I can now move on from her.
I don't know about being super in all, never had the chance I guess. Love the box, it's beautiful. I'd save it and give it to my next wife.
I might have given it to her...in tiny little pieces. Or with a booby trap. Nothing really harful, maybe a stink bomb.
It is a very beautiful piece, and you are to be congradulated for building it. Now that you have given it to your ex, I hope you have a feeling of liberation. There are many more well executed pieces to come from you.
