Lacewood and Tiger Maple Entertainment Cabinet
This entertainment wall proved to be quite a challenge. There are quite a few details that were difficult, and I probably wouldn’t attempt again. 1. The lacewood bi-fold doors are cut at an angle so when closed the actual line is only slightly visible through the carving. 2. Just finding the lacewood proved to be futile without being able to hand pick the pieces. My clients actually found a stockpile in South Carolina while on vacation. They actually picked the boards themselves and they did a great job at it. 3. The base cabinets actually consists of 5 separate consoles. Each one is on casters and built as a stand alone piece. Then each console has an accoustic material faced door, which with the speaker components behind will not deaden any sound value. Add some pocket door hardware, swivel shelving for components and you get a very tricked-out ride.

Just beautiful, Omar, it made me smile at so early on a sunday morning - a rare feat! Love those handles on the base cabinets, they harmonise very nicely indeed and don't try to compete with the top tv cabinet. You exhibit sound judgement in knowing when to let one part "sing" and the the rest play supporting roles. Good photography too - always tricky to do in the clients home.
Thank You again Nicholas. I'm very lucky, my wife is a professional photographer. Sometimes her images are more beautiful than the actual piece.
I routinely scroll through the Readers Gallery to look for innovative designs. Your designs stopped me in my tracks. I love the design and craftsmanship that went into the piece. Those flowing lines on the upper cabinet is very zen like. I love it because the piece does not have gawdy lines, it sits there peacefully, but yet your eyes drift to it. Wood that looks like flowing water. Awesome!!! One of the nicest pieces that I have seen in all the designs. But how did you did do the panels? did you sketch it out and relief cut it with a router or did you hand cut everything. It looks like a lot of sanding!!! But great job Omar!!!
Thank you sir. I do strive in my designs to not overwork things. Just let the wood be beautiful. As far as the relief carving, I first chalk out the design then do my rough cuts with a grinder fitted with a heavy grit pad. From there the smoothing is done with disks and sometimes by hand. It's messy and very physical, a good workout.
Once again - WOW! Was this a companion piece to the quilted cherry china buffet or are these two separate clients?
Thanks BenchMarc, These are different clients than the Cherry buffet piece, but they had seen my portfolio and liked the relief carving from other projects.
Cabinets for today's widescreen tvs often fall short in that they don't enclose the tv when it's off. Your design is beautiful and replaces that black hole with a piece of art. Excellent.
This is a really gorgeous piece of woodworking. Can you tell us what the finishes are? And also, what is the acoustic material on the front faces? it's quite attractive (which a lot of acoustic fabric isn't).
Very impressive work. Your eye for detail is overwelming.
