Restored Thonet rocker
I picked up a Thonet Rocker for $15 at a yard sale. Not knowing what it was. The center ring was cracked and I only realised that when I get home. The cane was all in good order which made it worthwhile. So after a bad attempt at using polyurathane with colorant in it I took all the sides down to the bare wood and stained them back up. I was the first time I had used stain. Then I used wipe-on-poly and I am very pleased with the result.
To stop it cracking again I glued up the ring and put a solid piece of 3/4 ply aross the back of the center ring. Then I made an insert that we covered with a pit of batting and covered it with denim. Not exactually orginal but much stronger.
I kept saying to myself $15 from a yard sale. I must of spent about $40 in total and I am busy sitting in it as I type.

Those Thonet chairs are absolute design icons; yours is the first I've seen apart from drawings in catalogues and although literally millions of examples were made, they were well made and still look good. You've got a bargain there for $15 + your time.
