an expanding cherry dining table
all i can say here is that this was a challenging and rewarding project from start to finish. our client combined design elements from from two of our more complex expanding dining table designs. the challenges included the multipiece burl center inlay and leaves, the fussy to make edge inlay, the split, buttressed column and center leg, getting the runners to separate the column halves at the proper time, etc. etc. . i had, for a minute at least, a little trouble remembering how to get the runners to work, hence, the separate blog entry on ‘opening the cherry table’ where you can see a short video of the opening and closing process. we’ll be ready next time. in the past i have relied a lot on ‘tribal knowledge’, the combined brainpower of my employees. sometimes, the tribe changes and some of the knowledge leaves. hence the blog. there are more in process photos and work process descriptions for later reference in the main post on my dorset csutom furniture blog …
