captain’s chest
A captains sea chest given a face-lift. It was intended for an 18 year old’s birthday so the seaworthiness was not required , so no heavy lock, metal straps far too gothic and heavy carved initials too coarse. “Keep it useful and feminine” was the request. Okay then- here it is, made from english oak all round and cedar of lebanon for the interior base. This is a lovely aromatic wood pale, straw in colour, that is a clothes moth deterrant too. And so she can’t sit on it all day, I made the top pitched, my explanation to her was “so that the dust would just slide off” raised a half grin. The handles are authentic marine rope carefully intertwined and called “beckets” (learn something new everyday, eh?) 36″x 18″ x 24″

Very nice work.
The beckets are interesting on this contemporary old chest. Why a becket instead of a grommet? More comfortable to grip?
