China Art Display Shelf
A China Art Wall Display Shelf: Needing a means to display my gifted grandmother’s hand painted china studies, I designed this wall display shelf using a lattice work design of a china cabinet and entertaiment center I recently made. The shelf body was fabricated from a 10 inch 5/4 red oak board with a large knot, resawed throught the middle, opening into two mirrored boards, turning one board end for end and lap joining the two boards together. The shelves and lattice sructures were of quartersawn white oak. The curve lattice work was fabricated from 1-1/2 inch quartersawn White Oak strips by rough band sawing the modular curved design, finishing the strips on a router table using my designed template jig; thence, cutting the strips in hallf, reversing one half and gluing the halves together, finishing and mounting them into mortises in the shelves The unit was finished following FW’s “Tabletop Finish” Issue 214, using Zinsser’s Bulls Eye Seal Coat Shellac, Miniwax’s Clear Polyurethane, and finish buffing off with Gel Topcoat.
