Curly red, and white oak writing desk
This was one of the last projects at school. I like Arts and Crafts stlye furniture with tradional joinery accompanied with beautiful figured lumber. Being a lumber inspector for many years gave me an opportunity to collect some rare and spectacular figured lumber.
All joinery is mortise and tenon, through tenons, hand cut dovetails for the drawers. Every piece I do has a carving of a leaf for that particular species.

can i get a plan on how to build this desk?
Beautiful piece of furniture. The detail work really sets it apart. I'm sure this will be a treasured heirloom.
Beautiful desk. I love the wood grain. You need a picture of the top. I hope you haven't been endangered by the recent flooding.
I live in Waterbury Center so our house didn't get hit, but the town is a disaster..
Yes this desk will sit in my office for a long time as I admire it everyday.
My plan was just a picture that I drew and as I build the project I add details here and there that interests me. Most of the design is in my head so not much down on paper.
I wanted to fume this piece to age the oak but with red oak the fuming process will turn the wood green. So I went through a task of water based stains, gel stains, shellac, with several coats poly.
Arts and Crafts stlye furniture always looked heavy and clunky. Your desk looks like you could lift it with one hand. Well done.
I really like the foot detail.
Any secret compartments?
What does the righthand door open to?
You did this spectacular oak lumber justice, great job!
Kev.
