My Marquetry Creations
To create a piece of marquetry, I first hand sketch the subject, then redraw the subject by partitioning it into many smaller shapes while selecting an appropriate piece of wood for each shape among thousands of wood pieces in my inventory. Selecting the right piece of wood for each shape is a very time consuming process but a necessary step to ensure the most natural rendering of the subject. Next, I cut the wood to the shapes drawn and assemble them to form the picture. Finally, the picture is glued onto a half-inch thick board and its surface is sanded smooth and protected with five coats of professional grade clear finishes.
