Here’s my first real piece of furniture. My Mom wanted a coffee table with storage, and “those slats on the sides.” This is what I came up with. I really learned a lot. It’s white oak, and although I wanted to fume it, I used a Watco oil to get ‘er done. Poly on top.

I used biscuits to align the top then flattened with a #7 jointer, but that resulted in horrible tear out. I then learned how to sharpen and use a scraper in an old Stanley #80. After some trial and error, it worked amazingly well. I'm doing what I can with hand tools.
Wow, it's hard to believe that this is your first "real piece of furniture." The joinery is beautiful. I'm just starting out and this is the type of project I aspire to. Thanks for sharing, SLT.
at first when i seen the mortises and tennons i thought...fake. So im really impressed. I like them alot and think ill use them in future projects. Its hard to criticise work like this, maby the olny thing i might have done different is wedge the tennons. This baby will never come apart! Thank you for sharing.

I agree Joe. This is fine work from design to finish. A little jealous here. Going to have to look for a mortise and tenon setup soon.
SLT - how did you get the top so flat? Do you have ALL the toys?

Great job. I like Arts & Crafts too and this is an excellent job! The size of the table looks very large looks like 24"W x 36"L x 18" H??
That double tenon is a winner; original design??
