My First Segmented Bowl
This was my first attempt at turning a segmented bowl. I attended a local guild meeting with a member of the Guild of NH Woodworkers. Claude Dupuis demostrated the process and I did some additional internet research. At SegmentedTurning.com I met the owner Bill Kandler. After purchasing his software package and one of the plans he had, I was off and running (or was it turning). After a couple of telphone calls to Bill for beginners help, I felt confident I could complete this project. Why not start with something smaller you might ask? Well this was going to be my nephew’s and his fiancee’s wedding gift in Germany. The final product has over 300 pieces of walnut, maple and cherry. It measures about 13″ diameter and about 8″ tall. The bowl was finished with 2 coats tung oil and Beall’s 3-step buffing process. I was so protective of the bowl that during the flight to Germany that no one dared get too close to my carryon bowl in a cardboard box.
