I like the contrast between the wood and steel...thanks for sharing!
Intriguing work. How does your design process go? Do you think about the metal first, then the wood? Is your metal design driven by found metal?

In this case the wood (the end of a slab of Eucalyptus i bought from a fellow furniture maker in Arizona) came first. The big pipe is also from Arizona (found in the Hassayampa wash in Wickenburg), i knew it would be a base for something. I'd been thinking about using a steel post through it, a feller who was sharing the shop space i rent to renovate a sailboat gave me a broken spar or jib (a big dowel) and i saw it could be that post with a wedged flush through tenon. The rest fell into place.
