a custom cherry trestle table
we’ll be sending this 10’ cherry trestle table to washington dc this week. the design is loosely based on a table we made about 20 years ago, (the top model in the photo above). that was one of the first scale models i made to show clients what their table would look like when it was finished. i’ve been hooked on the model making process ever since. (about 20 posts at that link). the final design for this table evolved through discussion with the clients to include the ‘floating’ arc piece stretcher which is secured to the vertical parts of the base by eight 3/4” x 2.25” cold rolled round steel pins. the pin holes do not go completely through the stretcher, a fact that keeps the stretcher centered between the verticals. this idea involved some careful marking and drilling, and a quick jig to drill the verticals accurately, but resulted in a tight fit that makes the base and the table structure itself extremely rigid. i give my son sam credit for the steel pin concept, which seems to have universal appeal during the two weeks the table has been in process in the shop. larger and more detailed process photos on my dorset custom furniture blog. happy new year everyone … dan mosheim

A most attractive piece of furniture. If I was in the market for a table I would certainly go for this. Beautiful design, beautiful wood, sturdy construction.
I really like it. And the use of models is excellent. I will have to try that.
Awesome looking table, i am wondering what color stain you used on this? I am in the process of making a cherry gun cabinet and this is the color i am going for. Thanks
