Ontario Carriage House Shop
My dream shop is in a restored 1850 carriage house on the back of my property in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Its a timberframe structure with a stone foundation. With a main floor, loft and basement of just over 500 sq ft on each floor it is perfect for me. The stairs to the loft are on the right front. The box at the front on the left is a hatch to the basement. I do built-in cabinetry, reproduction molding and custom doors. Cabinetry and rough milling is done on the main floor. The loft is for turning, carving and restoring antique furniture, The basement is primarily wood storage. I also have a large steel table, metal cutting bandsaw and welding equipment in the basement.
After 30 years of woodworking in all kinds and sizes of shops, this one really is just perfect. There is a beautiful view out of the windows and my wife sometimes lingers in an old chair in the loft while I’m doing quiet work.
