Hand-made Telecaster
This is a hand made Fender Telecaster style electric guitar. Everything is fully-functional and everything besides the hardware and electronics were made completely from scratch. The body is African-Ribbon Mahogany and the neck is Curly Maple. The fret dots are made from Mahogany plugs.
I am a middle school woodshop teacher and my goal for next year is to have my 8th grade students building their own electric guitars as well. Funding will be the main issue, as each guitar will cost between $150-$200 per student to pay for the wood and hardware. Student’s will have the option to build the guitars if they provide the money for the wood and hardware. My concern is the students who want to build the guitar, but can’t afford the cost. Having fundraisers is not allowed because it is for a curriculum based project. Any ideas/suggestions would surely be welcomed! Thanks for looking!

Its a pity you cant have fund raisers. Lovely guitar. Well made. Not sure what you could do, could you get a sponsor, like a local shop, even to lend you the money? Or is it possible that you could get a small grant?
Cheers

Nice looking guitar. It seems to be a project that would appeal to middle school students and would be a great learning experience on many levels. What about the possibility having some of the students building a couple of extras, perhaps as teams, and offering them for sale? What ever happens the opportunities you are providing are rare and precious.
Nice guitar. Left handed Tele with a deep cut-away and Humbuckers!!! I'm a right handed guitarist but I can appreciate the rarity and expense of beautiful left handed guitars. Custom is the answer. Would it be possible to have some type of "non-official" fund raiser? something that was student initiated and organized outside of official school protocol/BS? I would have absolutely loved to be given the chance to build my own guitar at that age. I'd still have it today. I hope you find a way and I wish you luck. This is exactly the type of thing I would like my kids to learn in school. More guitar building and playing, less video games.
Beautiful work and fantastic project for students. What a lucky group you'll be teaching...if you can find the resources. Try this website: http://www.kickstarter.com/
My son did this in High School. He learned a lot! Great project. If the student can't handle the woodworking aspect, but rather focus on electronics, this site could be of help;

MDF812,
What shape is the neck (curvature and radius top and bottom) and can you describe the process for me? My favorite neck shape is that of the early '80's Kramer American Pacer but copying the shape with it's ever changing radius and thickness would be a nightmare.
