Hayrake Dining Table
This is based on the Hayrake Table, Michael Pekovich’s project here at Fine Woodworking. There is a video available on line and also a Google Sketch-up file available.
The table as designed was too large for our dining area, so I re-sized everything to end up with a 32 x 64 in table. It is built of quarter sawn white oak, but I was not able to find any wood thick enough for the 2 7/8 in square legs, so I glued up 5/4 stock. I fumed the table with industrial grade (26%) ammonia for about 3 hours, then applied a coat of garnet shellac. That was followed by about 8 thin coats of General Finishes Oil and Urethane semi-gloss.
