Honduras Mahogany Bishops Throne
This is the Bishops Throne it was built in 1986 using genuine Hodurous Mahogany. It is still on display and in use at the Saint Andrews Greek Orthodox Church on Kendall drive in Miami, Fl. It is approximately 8 ft tall and 200 lbs, all hand carved to the architects specifications. I was asked by the architect to allow him to choose a stain color appropriate for the churchs architectural millwork. I insisted no staining is to be used on this piece of art. So after construction was completed I moved the chair out into the sun light at intervals to allow a more even blend in the overall tonality and coloration. After several days of delicate toning and a final light sanding I applied a clear semi gloss lacquer to seal in the beautiful Mahogany colors.
