saved from becoming firewood
This is lumber from a maple tree that stood in one of my former professors front yard. He asked me if I wanted the stump 39″ x 11′, because he had no way to manage it into burnable pieces. So after consulting the local saw mill owner, I was told that I would have to slim the tree to less then 36″. Well after hours of chainsaw plunge cuts, I had the tree quartered on two sides and slendered to 36″ on the bottom. Note: This was a massive feat using and 18″ blade. This case has a matching sister, which will have three rows of drawers on the bottom, a rounded set of shelves in the middle, and doors at the top, to be used as and entertainment center.
Both pieces have tablesaw milled mouldings for the bracket feet and crown, dovetailed corners, single board tops and sides from through cuts and cut to provide 360 degree continuous grain. Both cases book match each other, sides and back panels. It is fun to work with long, wide and beautiful lumber that only cost around $1.50 bf kiln dried all from the same tree.
Case size is 72″ tall, 42 1/2 wide, 12 3/4 wide. Slightly larger and taller with feet and crown. Built to accommodate seasonal wood movement, almost entirely quartersawn lumber.
