And again. Just a question .... not a comment. I have been lead to believe that walnut wood is toxic and should not be used in food preparation and shavings should not be used in animal bedding or horse stalls. Have I been mislead? I was going to make a dough tray out of a walnut log and was advised against it. Can someone clarify this for me?
Google, my friend, clarifies all: http://www.woodweb.com/knowledge_base/Walnut_toxicity_fact_and_fiction.html
I worked at a big architectural millwork/cabinet shop with a dust collection system that emptied into an almost literal train car size bin. Every time the boys milled up walnut, they pulled the train car away, because the shavings were all sold to farms. Short answer is that if you're a horse, walnut is bad. If you're a human, not so much.
Very cool cutting board, by the way.
Hardwoods are not toxic as a general proposition. Be careful with some exotic woods though, particularly wood from fruit trees which can contain trace elements of cyanide.
Thanks, nslewis. Enlightening information on the website.
Your design is excellent.
Very cool design! I especially like the rounded sides you gave it. Also to the others I am pretty confident walnut is not toxic although there is some debate on whether a walnut cutting board is safe for someone with a nut allergy.
