Catrina Jewelry Cabinet
Well this one took much longer to finish up then I ever expected. But it’s finally done. This was for my wife’s birthday (now 11 months ago).
The entire piece is about 20” by 20” by 6”. Made from bubinga and some lovely spalted curly maple. Finished with oil/varnish blend wet sanded with 600 grit.
I designed the cabinet to be used primarily without opening any doors or drawers. Necklaces and earrings (stud and hook) can be stored “in the open”. The two top boxes will likely hold the rest, the empty space under the mirror is for pictures or perhaps other small jewelry or ring boxes. The bottom three drawers were basically needed to complete the look I wanted for the piece.
I was going for an asian/arts and crafts blend and think that comes across.
This is definitely my most involved piece yet, 16 sliding dovetail joints, dozens of pieces, dozens of mortise and tenon joints.
If anyone is interested, here’s a four part blog of the build
Thanks for looking!

Love the design. I am going to start building one for my daughter soon (more Queen Ann style though)Really love the woods you found to use. I am sure your wife is very pleased even though it's a little late! If you would have waited a month more would it have counted for two yrs worth??
Very nice work. I like how you got the color of the bubinga to carry over into the spalted.
