Leather Headboard
This curved leather head board was constructed of ¾” maple plywood for the main frame and interior support structure. Three permanent layers of 1/8″ bending plywood for the sub top curved platform. This sub top was covered in 15 triangular shaped sections, each made up of three glued together layers of 1/8″ bending plywood. The finished sub top was used as the form to glue the 15 triangular sections by screwing down narrow strips of 3/8″ bending as clamping strips while the glue set up within the three layers of 1/8″ lamination. After gluing was complete these 15 laminated sections were trimmed to fit up against each other with just enough space between to allow the leather to fold over the back of each and be stapled down. The sections were then wing nut bolted through the sub top, via the two access panels hidden by the bed mattress, pillows, comforter, etc. The entire rear surface of this piece also had 15 sectional pieces constructed in the same method as described the above. The rear tall panel sections lined up thier seems with the triangular front panel sections at the very top point of the head board.
