Walnut Version of the Arts and Crafts Hayrake table
Had a great learning experience building this table for a friend. The table was built out of walnut that had been claimed from a forest blow down. I had to do a lot of glueup since all the boards 4/4 boards. I learned how to make my own veneer to hide the board layers on the legs. I pinned the table together with pieces from a discarded ebony board that had been given to me from an old wood working friend. The most rewarding part of the project though, was when I delivered the table. My friend was teary-eyed and honestly, so was I. It was like the table was meant to be made for her to sit in that very dining area. A very rewarding experience for everyone! I really appreciate Fine Woodworking magazine and the website for publishing such a great project. More just like it please!

Thanks for posting this. I'm gearing up to make this hayrake table out of walnut. I like the way it looks in walnut. Did you do the ammonia finish like Mike suggests in the article? If so, how long did you keep it under the ammonia?
