Bowfront cabinet
This is a cabinet in birch on a base of douglas fir… there’s also some cherry, framing the door panels. The finish is a quick wipe of linseed oil followed by several sprayed coats of dewaxed shellac and then rubbed out to a stain sheen with some paste wax on top of it all.
I’m happy with how it turned out, though heaven knows it went through some rather drastic on-the-fly design changes, because something that I thought would look good turned out to irk me when viewed from different positions. For instance, the first base I made was about half the height, and it made the whole thing look too squat. In another case, the overhang of the top was changed from a couple of inches at the ends, to about 5/16″. I like to think that doing things this way helps teach the senses and exercises logic and makes the next project go more smoothly and maybe be even better in the end.
Thanks for looking.
