a custom curly maple kitchen
we recently installed a custom curly maple kitchen in a local historic home. the house was built in the 20’s, and has been in the renovation process for a couple of years. it’s more or less complete now; in fact we had to have the ketchen in for a major 135 person fundraising dinner that took place on september 29th. the place sparkled. because of that deadline, we had to approach the project in sort of a ‘backwards’ way. because of the large counter slabs (72 x 108), long leadtime on the custom slate sink (42 x 21 x 13 deep), we had to make two sample sinks as well as the templates for the counters as we got the cabinets underway. that led to some last minute anxiety as the counters were installed, in the process though, we got to visit sheldon slate, a MAJOR slate fabricator up the road in granvile, ny. (pictures here) it was a good project. lots of steps, satisfying results. more photos, links, and comments on my dorset custom furniture blog
