A Study in Grain Direction
Woodworker: Mike Greenberg
Greenberg used this box to explore grain direction and design. He resawed cherry and bird’s-eye maple boards to achieve a continuous grain wrap around the box and a bookmatch on all the lids, interior and exterior. To move from a very rectilinear piece to one that creates a sense of movement, Greenberg coved the sides of the box and skewed the direction of the splines. The finish is Danish oil and wax.
