Woodworker: Ron Fleming
Ron Fleming crafted this rice bowl as part of an American Association of Woodturners project. He was given a rough-turned 3 in. by 5 in. bowl blank and asked to complete it for an exhibit, Japanese Bowls: A Western Perspective. Fleming told American Woodturner magazine that he has trouble carving a piece that someone else turned so he reshaped it and then added his trademark organic, leafy carving. This time he used a stylized version of fern leaves. The finish uses black ink and lacquer.
