Armonica
Woodworker: Steven Lash
The armonica is a musical instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin. Sound is made by rubbing a moistened finger on the spinning glasses that are each tuned to a different pitch. Steven Lash duplicated Franklin’s armonica in detail, even having the glasses professionally blown to produce the proper sound. The armonica is made from white oak, spruce, fir, mahogany, and mahogany veneer. The only difference between this version and the original is that Lash’s version uses electricity to operate.
