Aurora Media Cabinet
Woodworker: Darrell Peart
Peart’s substantial Arts and Crafts media cabinet includes pocket doors with adjustable shelves and drawers that can hold either DVDs or CDs. “Straps” on the base and the graduated height of the drawer fronts add visual weight to the piece while rabbeting the top edge of the sides helps reduce the “chunky” feel. While Peart generally avoids using metal slides, he wanted the full extension that they offer. Woodworkers can usually hide metal slides with an overhanging drawer front, but this case was tricky since the drawers are inset with finger-jointed. To solve the concealment dilemma, Peart made the sides 1-in. thick and routed out the space for the slides. The back is removable for easy access to the equipment.
