Black Walnut and Danish Cord Bench

The design for this black walnut and Danish cord bench (15-1/2-in. wide by 48-in. long by 17-1/2-in. tall) began with the gull-wing profile of the ends. Mails says the rest of the design flowed out of his desire to conform the cord seat to that shape. Because he has always liked the straightforward utility and exposed joinery of underhung drawers, he says he “played with that” on this bench as well. The finish is shellac. Ash is the secondary wood.
