Blanket Chest
Woodworker: John McAlevey
The frame-and-panel sides of this chest are a departure in style from the usual solid sides and dovetailed corners of a traditional chest. This version creates interesting shadow lines that are highlighted by the contrasting woods of cherry (frame) and maple (panels). The corner frames are elongated into stiles that give the chest its height. The panels are finished with shellac, while the frames are finished with a mixture of linseed oil and turpentine.
