Block-Front Chest

Woodworker: Roland Benjamin
Patterned after the block-front style of chest developed in Newport, R.I., this version was inspired by a photo in Nutting’s Furniture Treasury. The original was made in Rhode Island or Connecticut around 1775, but this version has a slightly different foot. Roland Benjamin took about 800 hours to complete the piece, with primary wood of Honduras mahogany and secondary woods of maple and poplar. The finish is aniline dye and urethane varnish.
