Bloodwood Shoulder Plane
Woodworker: Tim PerkesAs a beginning woodworker, Perkes has a dual motivation for making his own tools: He can get new tools with a limited budget, and he can hone his woodworking skills at the same time. The lignum vitae sole of this shoulder plane is glued and dovetailed to the bloodwood body. The blade is made from a ¾ -in. spade bit, the wedge is ebony, and the finish is boiled linseed oil.
