Cabinet
Woodworker: Greg Smith
The pleasing proportions of Smith’s cabinet are partly due to his materials: he cut all the kwila veneer from a single plank and used the sheets full width. To create symmetry and a feeling of unity in the cabinet, veneers cut from the plank are arranged sequentially around it. This way the front veneers are bookmatched to each other and also to the adjacent sides. Smith used blonde maple veneer for the inside of the cabinet doors and brass hardware. The piece is finished with shellac, carnauba wax, and beeswax.
