Beach reproduced this mahogany bed as a commission. The original was made by the client’s grandfather, who trained as a cabinetmaker in Germany and then emigrated to the United States in the early 1900s. Working directly from the original, Beach copied the design and carvings while enlarging the bed from a single to a double. The bed is finished with aniline dye and shellac.
