Chair 1
Woodworker: Willes Dale Stauffer
Stauffer’s sculptural chair won first place in the contemporary woodworking – furniture category at the 2007 Design in Wood competition organized by the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association. Stauffer started by resawing 16/4 Oregon black walnut to rough dimensions and then shaping the parts on the bandsaw. From there he honed the pieces with a spokeshave, files, and sandpaper. Floating tenons secure most of the joints, except for a few mechanical fasteners in the seat and back. The finish is shellac.
