Chair for a Small Important Person
Woodworker: Garry Bennett
Oakland, Calif. furniture maker Garry Knox Bennett designed and built this chair for a 2005 exhibition at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Mass. Bennett was among a group of furniture makers from the U.S. and Canada commissioned to build furniture inspired by classic Chinese works. Bennett incorporated several Chinese design elements into the chair but infused them with his own mixed-media personality. The rosewood chair also features nautilus shell, etched steel, pigmented epoxy, gold-plated brass and copper, and a hand-caned seat.
