Woodworker: Philip R. Karsell
This secretary was a birthday gift for Karsell’s granddaughter on her 10th birthday. Instead of making a childish piece that she would grow out of, Karsell built this work in cherry and quilted-maple veneer. “I’ll make you a piece you can keep,” he told her. He found design inspiration from the book Heirloom Projects for Woodworkers. The design features a secret compartment, which her parents have not yet been able to find. The finish is shellac and wax.
