Woodworker: Kelly Mehler

Kelly Mehler, a woodworker in Berea, Kentucky, made this chest of drawers from a single cherry log, achieving beautiful continuity in the grain pattern. Mehler often has logs flitchsawn, meaning they remain in the stacked pattern of the original tree. He air-dries them in his shop, then stores the planks in that same order.
