Coat Rack
Woodworker: Charles Miller
Miller’s coat rack, made from Douglas fir, recalls his days of being a commercial fisherman. The ribs of the fish are mortised straight through the bent-laminated spine, making them strong enough to hold a winter coat. To give the appearance of bones, an undercoat of grayish white acrylic was painted on first, then topped with a series of wash coats of highly thinned iron oxide.
