Woodworker: Michael Bell
Bell makes warm, solid-wood contemporary furniture using traditional construction methods. He collaborated with Susan Zelouf on the design of this sideboard, part of a large commission of furniture for the Irish embassies in The Hague, Netherlands, and Lisbon, Portugal. The carcase and drawer fronts are cherry, the door panels are Australian silky oak, and the drawer sides and bottoms are maple. The finish is hand-rubbed matte lacquer.
