Dutch Cabinet on Stand
Woodworker: Roy Howard
This piece was inspired by a Dutch cabinet-on-stand (circa 1650) that resides in the state bedchamber at Ham House in Richmond, England. Howard built the cabinet out of New Guinea rosewood, and cut several hundred pieces of jarrah, rosewood, mahogany, blackwood, walnut, silver ash, and ebony for the marquetry in the door panels and the banding around the drawer fronts. The process took about 650 hours. The finish is Feast Watson’s Fine Buffing Oil and Proofseal, a combination that did not darken the wood or inlay.
