Woodworker: Brian NewellNewell remembers admiring Krenov and at the same time being incapable of following direction. “Luckily,” Newell says, “he blessed my independence and encouraged my insurrection.” Newell also recalls that “Jim Krenov could choose and use wood like no one else.” He strives for the same in his pieces, including this Macasser ebony and pearwood desk. Newell works and teaches woodworking from his own shop in northern California and is organizing cultural woodworking tours of Japan, where he lived and worked for over a decade.
