Woodworker: Michael Cullen

Cullen drew inspiration for the shapes of this pearwood dining table and chairs from stems, leaves, and petals in the gardens surrounding his client’s California bungalow. Pointed elliptical crest rails as well as pearwood with rosewood accents are used to tie Cullen’s chairs to the dining table. The table’s shimmering web-like pattern is made of curly sycamore. Maple is also used in the table’s construction and the chairs are upholstered with suede. Lacquer and shellac were used to finish the table. The chairs were finished with shellac.
