Esherick-Inspired Bench
Woodworker: Michael PuryearPuryear calls the Wharton Esherick Museum “one of my favorite places—I always tell people to go there.” When Puryear selected his portion of the Esherick poplar, the thickest planks remaining were 4/4 and 5/4, and that restriction prompted this bench (18-in. deep by 48-in. wide by 16-in. tall). Puryear liked the grain pattern of his planks but felt the color was bland, so he used aniline dye to impart a golden tone without obscuring the grain. Photo: Jonathan Binzen
